Ocean City Radio is classed as a ‘hybrid’ radio station because it broadcasts on the local DAB network in addition to its simulcast via the internet which makes us listenable across the globe. Ocean City Radio is the only station of its kind in the area and is kept afloat financially by regular subscriptions from the team, small-scale advertising by local businesses and generous sponsorship from a handful of well known local companies. We are ultimately a 'community' radio station which was founded with a view to improve community cohesion within the City of Plymouth and all its neighbouring towns and villages. We pledge to eliminate prejudice and discrimination that negatively impacts the lives of thousands of people in our broadcast area. We are fully inclusive as an organisation and strongly promote equality and egalitarianism irrespective of discriminatory issues that effect people in other aspects of their lives.
Our entire team are volunteers who contribute financially to our operational costs in addition to the work they do in the studio and preparation at home. Our radio presenters come from all walks of life and many have little or no previous experience. Unlike mainstream radio stations, you do not need a degree in any of the media subjects and we are happy to train people from scratch. We are proud of the opportunity we provide to local people who are generally just fulfilling the childhood dream of being on the radio, while at the same time harnessing the skills of others who have the view of taking the role further and becoming a radio professional. Many of our presenters have gone on to bigger and better things after gaining industry recognised qualifications.

A good proportion of our team use their airtime as a means of escape from the trials and tribulations of life and are amazed at just how quickly their showtime flies-by. Due to the nature of community radio, the majority of presenters are employed during the day. This makes it more difficult to fill our schedule. For that reason, we always have vacancies for those with appropriate transferable skills to join us.
